Toyota has announced a $44.4 million investment in Interstellar Technologies, a Japanese spaceflight company, marking its entry into the space industry.
The partnership aims to leverage Toyota’s mass-production expertise to manufacture rockets, catering to the growing demand for small satellite launches and bolstering Japan’s presence in the global space sector.
Interstellar Technologies, established in 2013, has conducted seven suborbital rocket launches and is now working on larger rocket models.
Toyota’s investment will enhance supply chains and corporate governance within the company, accelerating the development and production of rockets.
This move complements Toyota’s collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on the Lunar Cruiser, a pressurized lunar exploration rover expected to launch by 2029.
By expanding its mobility solutions into space, Toyota is positioning itself as a major player in the evolving space exploration industry, advancing technology and innovation beyond Earth.
