Infinix has introduced the concept of a completely new kind of smartphone in the form of its new Zero Series prototype device. As the name suggests, it can fold like Huawei’s groundbreaking Mate XT – albeit horizontally rather than vertically and with a potentially more compact footprint. The OEM asserts that it will be able to replace the user’s smartwatch, action camera, and conventional smartphone one day.
Following Huawei’s hotly-awaited breakthrough in getting the inaugural Mate XT to the market, other OEMs might not be far behind with their own first-gen tri-folding smartphone. Obvious candidates such as Samsung have just been joined by Infinix, which has sprung the announcement of the Zero Series Mini Tri-Fold on us just ahead of MWC 2025.
The Zero Series Mini Tri-Fold Concept
As the Mate XT is the dual-hinged counterpart to the more conventional, book-style Mate X6, the new Infinix concept is clearly intended to do the same for existing devices like the Zero Flip.
The result looks most like the Aurzen Zip collapsible projector – albeit with a main display that can adopt 3 different sizes depending on how it is folded on one side and 2 large cameras on the other.
Versatile Features and Use-Cases
Infinix envisages that it could assume a far wider range of features and use-cases compared to the average smartphone, including a tented dual-screen mode that helps the user communicate with another person in a different language.
The OEM also apparently intends to make accessories for the Zero Series Mini Tri-Fold that allow the user to put it on their bike or even their backpack, with those lenses facing out (and part of the screen facing the other way, if required), thereby acting as a replacement for lifestyle gadgets such as a GoPro (or the Insta360 GO).
Fitness Tracking and Wearable Features
Infinix is also confident that Mini Tri-Fold owners might even want to use it as a replacement for their current fitness wearable, as the cameras could help with tracking and refining their training form over time.
A Full-Sized Smartphone Mode
The Zero Series prototype also ultimately has a full-sized smartphone mode that could offer more screen real estate than something like the Motorola Razr 2024 (now $499.99 on Amazon) one day.
Then again, Infinix has yet to specify any real dimensions for the device – not to speak of a launch date for a real-world version – at this stage.
