Globacom, Huawei, and Nigerian ICT Ministry Launch Digital Village Initiative to Bridge Connectivity Gap

In a groundbreaking move to bridge Nigeria’s digital divide, the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy has partnered with Globacom and Huawei Nigerian Enterprises to launch the Digital Village Initiative, starting with a pilot project in Isuanin Kura in Ibwa 2, Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

This initiative aims to bring digital connectivity to over 7,000 underserved communities across Nigeria, empowering more than 20 million Nigerians with access to healthcare, education, the internet, and financial services.

Project Launch: Digital Inclusion for 12,000+ Residents in Ibwa 2

The newly launched Digital Village will provide:

  • Free public Wi-Fi access
  • 2G/3G/4G network services powered by Globacom
  • Solar-powered infrastructure for uninterrupted service in off-grid areas

During the launch, Chief Abubakar Bamaiyi, leader of the Ibwa 2 community, engaged in a live teleconsultation with a doctor in Abuja, demonstrating the tangible healthcare benefits of the project.
