Chowdeck Acquires Mira to Strengthen Its Position in Nigeria’s Food Delivery Market

Chowdeck Acquires Mira to Gain Competitive Edge in Nigeria’s Food Delivery Race

On-demand food delivery platform Chowdeck has announced its acquisition of Mira, a fast-rising Nigerian startup offering modern point-of-sale (PoS) solutions tailored to the food and hospitality industry. The move marks a major step in Chowdeck’s strategy to deepen its services and gain a competitive edge in Nigeria’s fast-evolving food delivery sector.

Chowdeck Expands Beyond Delivery with Mira Acquisition

Chowdeck revealed the acquisition in a press statement on Monday, highlighting that the integration of Mira’s technology would allow the company to offer more than just fast food deliveries. With this move, Chowdeck now gains the capacity to support restaurants with comprehensive operational tools, a growing need in Africa’s fragmented food and hospitality landscape.

“With Mira, we’re helping restaurants move from inventory chaos to growth clarity,” the company noted in its statement.

Mira’s Technology to Boost Restaurant Efficiency

Mira’s PoS systems are equipped with features such as

  • Card and QR code payment support
  • Real-time inventory tracking
  • Data-backed restaurant operations insights

These capabilities are essential for streamlining kitchen operations, improving supply chain efficiency, and reducing losses caused by inventory mismanagement, a major issue in Nigeria’s food business sector.

Industry Experts Weigh In

Analysts see this acquisition as a strategic move that could help Chowdeck compete more effectively with top players like Glovo, FoodCourt, ChopTown, and other rising delivery platforms in Nigeria. By leveraging Mira’s back-of-house tech, Chowdeck aims to deliver better value to its restaurant partners, enabling them to scale operations while maintaining speed, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Strengthening Leadership and Talent

The deal also brings new talent into Chowdeck’s leadership. Ted Oladele, CEO of Mira, will now serve as Head of Product at Chowdeck. Other members of Mira’s team will join to help develop Chowdeck’s expanding business tools suite.

Chowdeck’s Growth Trajectory

Founded in October 2021, Chowdeck has quickly grown into a leading delivery platform in Nigeria, boasting:

  • Over 1.5 million users
  • More than 20,000 delivery riders
  • Presence in 11 Nigerian cities
  • Recent expansion into Ghana

The company averages under 30-minute deliveries and continues to push the boundaries of convenience and speed in food and retail logistics.

Building on Recent Seed Funding

This acquisition follows Chowdeck’s $2.5 million seed funding round in April 2024, which included backing from prominent investors such as

  • Y Combinator
  • Goodwater Capital
  • FounderX Ventures
  • Hoaq Fund
  • Levare Ventures
  • True Culture Funds
  • Haleakala Ventures

The funding was aimed at expanding operations and reinforcing market leadership in current and new cities across Nigeria.

Chowdeck Poised for Food Tech Leadership in Africa

By acquiring Mira, Chowdeck is transitioning from being a delivery-only platform to a full-service foodtech partner. This positions the startup to solve deeper, more complex challenges for restaurants, from inventory management to operational scalability, helping it solidify its role as a top contender in Nigeria’s food delivery and restaurant tech ecosystem.
