Instagram Outage in the U.S. Subsides After Thousands of Reports
Thousands of users across the United States experienced access issues with Instagram on Wednesday, but the situation has largely stabilised, according to Downdetector, a platform that monitors real-time outages.
At the peak of the disruption, over 16,700 reports were logged, indicating widespread problems with the app’s functionality. As of 12:10 p.m. ET, however, the number of reports had dropped dramatically to just 849 incidents, signalling that Meta has addressed the bulk of the technical issues.
What Happened?
The outage appeared to affect key functions of Instagram’s mobile and web platforms, including:
- App crashes
- Feed loading delays
- Login and account access issues
- Error messages during post uploads or story views
Downdetector aggregated the outage data from user reports and other sources, confirming a significant service interruption for many users in the United States.
Meta’s Response
While Meta (Instagram’s parent company) has not yet released a detailed statement on the cause of the issue, the swift decline in reports suggests that engineering teams took quick action to resolve the problem. Users across social media began reporting normal service resumption by midday.
