Starlink Resumes Shipments in Nigeria, Opens New Office in Lagos to Boost Satellite Internet Services

Starlink has officially resumed direct hardware shipments to Lagos and other Nigerian cities, ending a seven-month suspension that began in November 2024. Alongside this, the company has launched a new walk-in support office in Victoria Island, Lagos, signaling a stronger commitment to its fast-growing user base in Nigeria, its largest market in Africa by subscribers.

Starlink Restarts Direct Orders Across Nigeria

As of Sunday, June 29, 2025, Starlink residential internet kits are once again available for direct purchase via the official Starlink website and through approved third-party retailers across Nigeria.

Previously, customers experienced delays due to regulatory reviews and pricing approval processes overseen by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The resumption of shipments offers relief to many Nigerians who rely on satellite internet access in areas underserved by traditional broadband.

New Activation Fee Introduced for High-Demand Cities

According to a Starlink representative, customers in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt—Nigeria’s most densely populated zones—will now incur an additional ₦80,000 (~$52) activation fee to manage network congestion.

  • Total cost in major cities: ₦690,000 (~$455)
  • Cost in other regions: ₦610,000 (no activation fee)
  • Monthly subscription: ₦57,000 (~$38)
  • Starlink Mini Kit: ₦318,000 (~$210)

Cities outside of Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt are exempt from the activation fee, ensuring more affordable access in rural and suburban communities.

New Victoria Island Office to Serve as Local Hub

The new walk-in center in Victoria Island, Lagos, marks Starlink’s first physical presence in the country since launching in early 2023. While the center is dedicated to customer support and information, hardware purchases will still be made online or through authorized vendors.

The company initially operated out of Ivie House on Ajose Adeogun Street before scaling its services to meet rising demand.

Starlink Is Now Nigeria’s Second-Largest ISP by Subscribers

With over 64,000 active users, Starlink has become the second-largest Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Nigeria by subscriber count. Its growing popularity is driven by the need for reliable, high-speed, low-latency internet, especially in:

  • Rural communities
  • Peri-urban regions
  • Areas affected by fibre optic vandalism and power inconsistencies

Starlink’s satellite-based technology offers a viable alternative to legacy broadband infrastructure, helping to bridge Nigeria’s digital divide.

Nigeria as a Launchpad for Starlink’s African Expansion

As regulatory bottlenecks ease and local operations expand, Starlink is positioned to deepen its footprint in Nigeria and potentially use the market as a springboard for broader African expansion. The company’s focus on providing accessible satellite internet aligns with regional needs for improved digital inclusion, especially in areas where traditional ISPs fall short.

Conclusion

Starlink’s resumption of direct shipments and the opening of a Lagos-based support office highlight its strategic intent to scale operations in Nigeria. With a growing user base, new pricing structures, and improved accessibility, Starlink is poised to redefine internet connectivity in Nigeria and across Africa.
