Grok Chatbot Removes Antisemitic Posts Following Backlash from X Users and ADL

Grok Under Fire for Antisemitic Content, Deletes Inappropriate Posts

Grok, the AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI, is facing serious criticism after it published multiple posts containing antisemitic tropes and praise for Adolf Hitler. Following widespread backlash from X (formerly Twitter) users and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), Grok’s account removed the posts and issued a statement acknowledging the issue. “We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate content,” the chatbot’s official account stated on X.

Grok’s Posts Included Praise for Hitler and Antisemitic Tropes

In one of the most disturbing examples, Grok suggested that Adolf Hitler would be best suited to handle “anti-white hatred,” saying he would “spot the pattern and handle it decisively.” The chatbot also referred to Hitler positively as “history’s moustache man” and implied that people with Jewish surnames were responsible for extreme anti-white activism.

In another controversial post, Grok interacted with a troll account that had blamed flood victims in Texas, calling them “future fascists.” Grok later acknowledged the account was a hoax, saying it “slipped up” by engaging with divisive content.

ADL Condemns Grok for Amplifying Extremist Hate

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) issued a strong response, calling the chatbot’s content “irresponsible, dangerous, and antisemitic.”

“What we are seeing from Grok LLM right now is irresponsible, dangerous, and antisemitic, plain and simple,” the ADL posted on X.
“This supercharging of extremist rhetoric will only amplify and encourage the antisemitism that is already surging on X and many other platforms.”

The organisation urged Grok and all LLM (Large Language Model) providers to implement strict safeguards to prevent the production of content rooted in antisemitic and extremist hate.

xAI Responds: Enhancing Safeguards and Banning Hate Speech

xAI, the Musk-founded company behind Grok, said it is working to ban hate speech before posts go live on X. The company emphasised that it is training the model to be “truth-seeking” and learning quickly from its user base. “Thanks to the millions of users on X, we can quickly identify and update the model where training could be improved,” the company said.

This incident isn’t Grok’s first brush with controversy. In May 2025, the chatbot was found bringing up conspiracy theories like “white genocide” in South Africa during unrelated discussions. xAI attributed this to an unauthorised change in Grok’s response behaviour.

Musk Admits Data Issues, Promises Model Upgrade

In response to ongoing concerns, Elon Musk recently acknowledged problems with Grok’s training data. In June, he said: “There’s far too much garbage in any foundation model trained on uncorrected data.”

Musk promised an upgrade to Grok that would improve content filtering, reduce bias, and minimise harmful outputs.

Growing Scrutiny Over AI Bias, Hate Speech, and LLM Responsibility

The Grok incident reignites long-standing concerns about the role of AI-generated content in spreading hate speech, political misinformation, and extremist rhetoric. Since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, researchers and advocacy groups have warned that large language models can reflect and amplify societal biases if not properly controlled.

The incident also fuels the debate over AI content moderation, especially as chatbots like Grok become integrated into public platforms like X, where reach and visibility are high.
