The official X (formerly Twitter) account of Sesame Street character Elmo was hacked on Sunday, with unauthorised posts containing antisemitic and racist content. Sesame Workshop, the organisation behind the beloved children’s show, confirmed the incident on Monday.
Hackers Post Hate Speech and Conspiracy Theories on Elmo’s X Account
According to Sesame Workshop, the hacked posts included calls for violence against Jews, insults directed at President Donald Trump, and demands for the release of government files related to Jeffrey Epstein and his alleged associates.
All offensive posts have since been deleted. Elmo’s verified X account, which has over 650,000 followers, is typically used for family-friendly updates and educational content aimed at young audiences. “We are aware of the unauthorised access to Elmo’s account and have taken immediate action to secure it,” Sesame Workshop stated.
Sesame Workshop Responds to Elmo X Account Hack
The organisation emphasised that it does not endorse or support any of the messages posted during the hack. Steps have been taken to restore control over the account and prevent future incidents.
