Accenture to Acquire Australian Cybersecurity Firm CyberCX in $650 Million Deal

Accenture Makes Largest-Ever Cybersecurity Acquisition

Accenture said on Thursday it will acquire Australian cybersecurity leader CyberCX in its biggest-ever deal in the sector. The Australian Financial Review valued the transaction at more than A$1 billion ($650 million).

The move underscores the growing demand for advanced digital security services as companies face increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks that disrupt operations and compromise sensitive data.

Cybersecurity Threats Intensify in Australia

The acquisition comes after a series of high-profile cyber breaches in Australia:

  • Optus (2022): Data breach affecting up to 10 million users, exposing names, birth dates, contact details, and identification numbers.
  • Medibank (2022): Hack impacting nearly 10 million customers.
  • Qantas Airways (July 2025): Criminals accessed personal information of six million customers via a compromised call centre.

These incidents highlight the urgent need for enterprise-grade cybersecurity solutions, particularly in critical sectors like telecommunications, healthcare, and aviation.

About CyberCX

Founded in 2019 through the merger of 12 smaller cybersecurity firms backed by private equity firm BGH Capital, Melbourne-based CyberCX has rapidly grown into a major player in the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Employees: ~1,400
  • Security Operations Centres: Australia & New Zealand
  • Offices: London, New York
  • Leadership: CEO John Paitaridis (former Managing Director, Optus Business) and Chief Strategy Officer Alastair MacGibbon (former National Cybersecurity Coordinator for Australia).

Accenture’s Global Cybersecurity Expansion

The deal with CyberCX adds to Accenture’s aggressive cybersecurity acquisition strategy. Since 2015, Accenture has completed 20 security-related acquisitions, including:

  • Morphus (Brazil)
  • MNEMO (Mexico)
  • Innotec Security (Spain)

In February 2025, Accenture also signed a $700 million collaborative agreement with Telstra to implement AI capabilities across the telecom giant’s operations.

Strategic Importance of the Deal

CyberCX’s strong presence in Australia and New Zealand, combined with offices in key global markets, gives Accenture a deeper footprint in Asia-Pacific while strengthening its ability to counter increasingly complex cyber threats.

The acquisition is expected to bolster Accenture’s capacity in:

  • Threat intelligence
  • Incident response
  • Managed security services
  • Cloud security solutions
