ATC Nigeria and ProFuturo Partner to Bridge Nigeria’s Digital Education Divide
ATC Nigeria, a leading telecommunications infrastructure provider, has partnered with ProFuturo Foundation to address Nigeria’s growing digital education divide. The partnership, announced in collaboration with The Kukah Centre, aims to deliver digital learning tools and technology kits to underserved schools across Nigeria, expanding access to digital education for students and teachers.
Bridging Nigeria’s Digital Learning Gap
The collaboration between ATC Nigeria and ProFuturo Foundation under the ProFuturo Program will distribute specially designed digital education kits. Each kit contains:
- A computer
- Tablets
- Router
- Projector
- Other essential digital learning tools
These components are designed to boost digital access and learning opportunities, especially in vulnerable school environments. The initiative aligns with ATC Nigeria’s Digital Communities program, which already provides technology-equipped spaces offering:
- Digital literacy for youth
- Financial education and vocational training for adults
- Healthcare services
Commitment to Nigeria’s Educational Development
At the official signing event, attended by local authorities and education stakeholders, both organisations emphasised their shared goal: to close Nigeria’s digital education gap and promote innovative teaching practices.
“At ATC Nigeria, we are proud to support this impactful collaboration, which brings digital tools directly into classrooms,” said Pieter Van Der Westhuizen, CEO, ATC Nigeria.
“Through our collaboration with ProFuturo Foundation, our Digital Communities program is expanding access to technology and equipping the next generation with the skills they need to thrive in a digital world.”
Magdalena Brier, General Manager of ProFuturo Foundation, added:
“The alliance between ProFuturo Foundation and American Tower is a big step to improve educational opportunities for the most vulnerable. We are very honored with their support for what we have been doing since 2016.”
Pilot Program Targeting Three Nigerian States
Initially, the partnership will focus on 11 schools across three states:
- Kano
- Kebbi
- Taraba
The program is set to benefit over 5,600 children and 34 teachers in its first phase. Even in areas with limited internet connectivity, the kits aim to enrich the learning experience through:
- Interactive teaching methods
- Access to digital educational content
- Enhanced teacher training
Why This Initiative Matters
According to recent studies, Nigeria faces significant challenges in bridging the digital divide in education. Many schools lack basic technological infrastructure, hindering students’ ability to compete in a digital-first world.
By providing these digital education kits, ATC Nigeria and ProFuturo Foundation are:
- Supporting Nigeria’s national digital transformation goals
- Enabling students to gain critical 21st-century skills
- Strengthening teachers’ capacity to deliver modern, tech-enabled instruction
Conclusion
The ATC Nigeria and ProFuturo partnership represents a major step forward in bridging Nigeria’s digital education gap. Through direct school engagement, distribution of digital learning tools, and a focus on underserved regions, this initiative stands as a scalable model for improving education equity across Nigeria.
