Cassava Technologies Launches Africa’s First GPU-as-a-Service to Strengthen AI Sovereignty

Cassava Technologies, a global technology leader of African heritage, has officially launched Africa’s first GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) platform, a major milestone in advancing the continent’s AI sovereignty and digital innovation.

As Africa’s first preferred NVIDIA Cloud Partner (NCP), Cassava Technologies is deploying secure, high-performance data centre facilities across South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, and Morocco, enabling businesses and governments to access world-class AI computing power locally.

This move positions Cassava as a driving force in democratising access to artificial intelligence, giving African enterprises and researchers the infrastructure needed to build, train, and deploy AI models efficiently and affordably.

Empowering Africa’s AI Future

Hardy Pemhiwa, President and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies, emphasised that the initiative is about more than technology; it’s about empowerment and inclusion.

“Cassava’s commitment to growing Africa’s AI ecosystem is not just about technology; it’s about empowerment. Securing the position as the first preferred NVIDIA Cloud Partner in Africa enables us to play a crucial role in the continent’s AI ecosystem,” Pemhiwa said.

He added:

“We want African businesses to emerge as leaders and innovators in AI, not just consumers. We want to empower Africa to write our own AI future, in our own languages, with our own data, using local compute infrastructure.”

Democratizing Access to AI Compute Power

By deploying high-performance computing locally, Cassava Technologies enables entrepreneurs, governments, and enterprises to develop and deploy AI solutions cost-effectively and with greater data sovereignty.

Through its GPU-as-a-Service platform, Cassava is removing one of the biggest barriers to AI adoption in Africa — the high cost and limited access to advanced computing resources.

This development allows innovators to:

  • Build and train complex AI models locally
  • Reduce latency and data transfer costs
  • Maintain data privacy and compliance
  • Access scalable computing power on demand

“With Cassava’s GPUaaS, we’re making it possible for African innovators to compete globally by providing the tools they need to create solutions tailored to local challenges,” Pemhiwa added.

Advancing Africa’s Role in the Global AI Economy

Cassava’s launch underscores Africa’s readiness to transition from being a consumer of global technologies to a creator and contributor in the global AI economy.

By combining local infrastructure, NVIDIA GPU technology, and cloud innovation, Cassava Technologies is ensuring that African businesses and institutions can leverage AI responsibly and competitively, all while keeping data within the continent.

The company says this initiative aligns with its long-term mission of “enabling a digitally connected future that leaves no African behind.”
