Social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, experienced a significant outage on Saturday that affected thousands of users across the United States. According to Downdetector.com, which tracks real-time outage reports, the platform began showing partial recovery hours after disruptions were first reported.
X Outage Affects Thousands of U.S. Users
At the peak of the outage, over 10,000 user reports flooded Downdetector, indicating widespread access issues. However, by 7:42 p.m. ET, that number had dropped to around 1,041, suggesting that the platform was beginning to stabilise. Downdetector’s data is based on user-submitted reports, and the actual number of affected users may be higher.
This is not the first time X has suffered a service interruption in 2025. A similar incident occurred earlier in the year, which Musk later attributed to a cyberattack.
Elon Musk Responds to Uptime Issues
In a recent post on X, Elon Musk acknowledged the platform’s ongoing technical challenges:
“As evidenced by the X uptime issues this week, major operational improvements need to be made,” he said.
Musk also shared that he is returning to his intense work routine:
“Back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms. I must be super focused on X/xAI and Tesla (plus the Starship launch next week), as we have critical technologies rolling out.”
This follows his $300 million political contribution to former U.S. President Donald Trump and other Republican campaigns last year, an investment that continues to keep Musk in the media spotlight.
Platform Recovery and Future Improvements
While the exact cause of the latest X outage remains unclear, recovery efforts appear to be underway, and service is being gradually restored. Musk’s renewed focus on X, xAI, Tesla, and SpaceX’s Starship may lead to much-needed infrastructure upgrades and uptime reliability.
