Ethio Telecom has officially launched Zemen GEBEYA, a national digital marketplace aimed at modernizing Ethiopia’s commerce ecosystem and promoting inclusive economic growth. The platform is designed to connect businesses of all sizes with consumers across the country, supporting the government’s broader “Digital Ethiopia” strategy.
At the launch event, Ethio Telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamiru described Zemen GEBEYA as a major milestone in Ethiopia’s digital journey. She emphasized its role in enhancing the nation’s commercial infrastructure and creating inclusive economic opportunities.
Built on Ethio Telecom’s robust digital backbone—which includes fast internet, cloud services, a modular data center, and the Telebirr payment platform—Zemen GEBEYA offers a centralized and secure solution for online commerce. It aims to simplify transactions, increase transparency, and enhance productivity across the supply chain.
The platform is especially focused on supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by expanding their access to markets and enabling participation in the digital economy. Ethio Telecom expects Zemen GEBEYA to contribute to job creation, financial inclusion, local production, and overall economic empowerment.
Platform Features Include:*
Merchant portal and seller app
Consumer-facing mobile application
Logistics management system and dispatcher app
Administrative portal for system oversight
Over 42 businesses and logistics providers have already onboarded and are active on the platform, which is available as a mini-app within the Telebirr SuperApp.
In a closing statement, Ethio Telecom encouraged wider participation:
“Join us in building a more connected, empowered, and digitally driven Ethiopia.
