Acquisition will integrate Superhuman’s AI email tools into Grammarly’s growing suite of enterprise productivity solutions
Grammarly is acquiring Superhuman, a premium email startup, in a bold move to expand its AI-powered productivity suite and push beyond grammar correction. The acquisition, confirmed in an interview with Reuters, marks a strategic shift as Grammarly seeks to become a broader platform for enterprise collaboration and workplace efficiency.
Grammarly Eyes Enterprise AI Market with Superhuman Deal
While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Superhuman was last valued at $825 million in 2021 and currently generates around $35 million in annual revenue. The acquisition comes shortly after Grammarly secured $1 billion in funding from General Catalyst, giving the company ample resources to fuel its AI ambitions.
“Email continues to be the dominant communication tool for the world. Superhuman is the obvious leading innovator in the space,” said Grammarly CEO Shishir Mehrotra.
Mehrotra co-founded Coda, which Grammarly acquired last year, and sees email as the next logical step in unifying tools for writing, research, and productivity.
Superhuman’s AI-Powered Email Will Stay Intact
Founded to revolutionise email productivity, Superhuman has built a reputation for fast, efficient communication using AI-enhanced tools. The company claims:
- Users send and respond to 72% more emails per hour
- AI usage in email composition has increased 5x over the past year
CEO Rahul Vohra and over 100 employees will join Grammarly as part of the deal. Vohra said the acquisition will allow Superhuman to scale further and expand into adjacent tools like:
- Calendars
- Task management
- Team collaboration
Despite the acquisition, Mehrotra confirmed that the Superhuman brand, team, and product will continue to operate independently, while benefiting from Grammarly’s broader AI infrastructure.
Grammarly’s Vision: Integrated AI Agents Across Workflows
The acquisition signals Grammarly’s deeper push into enterprise AI tools, aiming to compete with heavyweights like Google, Microsoft, and Salesforce, as well as a growing number of AI productivity startups.
Grammarly plans to integrate its AI agents directly into Superhuman to:
- Pull insights across emails, documents, and digital workflows
- Reduce time spent on repetitive tasks
- Automate response writing and email follow-ups
- Serve enterprise customers with smart, context-aware features
The goal is to create a connected network of specialised AI agents, improving productivity by turning everyday tools into intelligent systems that anticipate user needs and accelerate output.
