Kenya Pushes Postal Digitisation to Power the Digital Economy
Kenya has renewed its commitment to digitising the postal sector as part of efforts to accelerate the nation’s transition into a digital economy. The pledge came as the country joined the global community in marking the 151st World Post Day under the theme “PostForPeople: Local Service. Global Reach.”
The celebration, held in Nairobi, was led by Mr Stephen Isaboke, the Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, who represented the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, Hon. William Kabogo Gitau.
Aligning Postal Digitisation with Kenya’s BETA Agenda
This year’s World Post Day theme aligns with the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), a framework aimed at driving inclusive economic growth, technological empowerment, and equitable access to opportunities from the grassroots to the global level.
In his keynote address, Mr. Isaboke emphasized that the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) remains a vital national institution capable of powering Kenya’s digital transformation through e-commerce, logistics, and digital financial services.
“As we celebrate World Post Day, we renew our resolve to make the Post a pillar of Kenya’s digital and economic transformation. Through innovation, partnership, and vision, we can build a 21st-century Posta Kenya that truly delivers — for the people, for business, and for the nation,” said Isaboke.
Repositioning Posta Kenya for the Digital Future
The Principal Secretary reaffirmed the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy’s commitment to repositioning Posta Kenya as a key player in digital governance and service delivery.
He also applauded the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) for leveraging the Universal Service Fund (USF) to modernise postal infrastructure in underserved areas. This initiative, he noted, is crucial for ensuring affordable, reliable, and inclusive postal and courier services across Kenya.

The event drew the participation of top government officials and sector leaders, including:
- Mr. Alphonse Kanuga, Secretary, Postal Service and Telecommunications
- Ms. Patricia Ondeng, Secretary, Public Communication
- Mr. Temesi Mukani, Secretary, Information and Broadcasting

Their presence underscored the government’s unified approach to modernising postal operations and strengthening digital connectivity nationwide.
Driving Innovation and Inclusion Through Postal Services
The 2025 World Post Day celebration highlighted Kenya’s strategic focus on postal digitisation as a catalyst for innovation, financial inclusion, and economic growth.
By integrating digital technologies into postal operations, the government aims to:
- Expand access to e-commerce and logistics services.
- Enhance last-mile connectivity in rural communities.
- Support digital financial inclusion for small businesses and individuals.
- Position Posta Kenya as a national logistics and digital services hub.
A Digital Future Anchored in Inclusion
Kenya’s postal reform agenda reflects a broader national vision to make the digital economy accessible to all citizens. By bridging the gap between traditional postal services and digital innovation, Posta Kenya is set to play a transformative role in achieving sustainable economic development.
As Kenya moves toward a fully digital ecosystem, the modernisation of its postal sector stands out as a key enabler for trade facilitation, service delivery, and economic inclusion.
