LG Electronics (LG) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Flex, a global leader in manufacturing and data centre infrastructure solutions, to jointly develop integrated and modular cooling technologies tailored for the growing thermal demands of AI-driven data centres.
The partnership combines LG’s high-performance air and liquid cooling modules with Flex’s liquid cooling portfolio and proprietary power systems, offering scalable, energy-efficient solutions for hyperscale and edge data centres worldwide.
Addressing Thermal Challenges in the AI Era
As artificial intelligence workloads drive higher power density and heat generation, advanced cooling solutions are becoming critical to ensure performance stability and operational efficiency.
The collaboration brings together LG’s full suite of thermal management technologies, including CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioners), CRAH (Computer Room Air Handlers), chillers, coolant distribution units (CDUs), and intelligent monitoring systems—with Flex’s customizable liquid cooling and IT infrastructure offerings.
This integrated approach gives data centre operators greater flexibility to customise, deploy, and scale systems based on capacity, energy usage, and environmental conditions.
Expanding LG’s Global Data Centre Footprint
LG is actively expanding its data centre business around the world. In Jakarta, Indonesia, the company recently secured an AI data centre project set to become one of the largest in the region.
Additionally, LG is collaborating with DATAVOLT, a global data centre infrastructure provider, on projects across the Middle East and Africa, and has been awarded a major cooling systems contract for a hyperscale data centre under construction in North America.
The company has also partnered with LG Uplus, a telecom subsidiary of LG Corp., to complete a proof-of-concept for advanced liquid cooling technology, aimed at improving data centre thermal management. LG is now developing next-generation CDUs and cold plate solutions, with completion and commercialisation expected later this year.
Showcasing Innovation at Global Events
Building on its debut at Data Centre World (DCW) in Washington D.C., LG recently showcased its latest cooling innovations at DCW Asia 2025 in Singapore, underlining its commitment to expanding its presence in the global data centre market.
“Through our collaboration with LG, Flex now offers customers a complete range of cooling solutions to tackle escalating heat challenges in the data center,” said Michael Hartung, President and Chief Commercial Officer at Flex.
“Together, we’ll deliver prefabricated, scalable infrastructure solutions that integrate advanced liquid and air-cooling technologies to increase efficiency, simplify deployment, and accelerate time to revenue.”
Enabling Efficient and Sustainable Data Centres
The partnership between LG and Flex signifies a strategic step toward sustainable, high-efficiency data centre infrastructure optimised for AI, cloud computing, and next-generation workloads. By integrating cutting-edge thermal management systems, both companies aim to reduce energy use, lower operational costs, and ensure long-term reliability in the data centre industry.
