Mastercard has unveiled a cutting-edge AI solution, Account Intelligence Reissuance, to combat rising card fraud across the Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EEMEA) region, streamlining the card reissuance process for banks and enhancing customer protection.
New AI-Based Fraud Detection Tool Targets Card Skimming and Digital Scams
In response to growing concerns over card fraud, Mastercard has introduced Account Intelligence Reissuance, a next-generation tool powered by proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) that helps card issuers:
- Accurately assess fraud risk
- Prioritize compromised cards for replacement
- Automate and streamline the card reissuance process
The tool delivers AI-driven insights to determine whether a card should be monitored or immediately reissued, helping reduce manual efforts and costs associated with traditional card replacement methods.
Card Fraud Costs Billions – Mastercard’s AI Offers a Scalable Fix
Globally, card fraud results in billions of dollars in losses annually for banks, card issuers, and merchants. The conventional process of reissuing cards after a data breach or card skimming incident is often manual, costly, and time-consuming.
“With Account Intelligence Reissuance, we’re empowering issuers with real-time data to detect and act on threats faster,” said Selin Bahadirli, Executive Vice President, Services, EEMEA, Mastercard.
“This AI-driven solution will significantly enhance fraud prevention and customer protection across the industry.”
Mastercard’s AI Capabilities Backed by Global Experience
The new service builds on Mastercard’s global AI infrastructure, which already supports over 159 billion transactions annually. The company’s Decision Intelligence platform evaluates signals like account behaviour, merchant profiles, and device history to detect fraud in real time.
Key AI features include:
- Risk aggregation and prioritization of compromised cards
- Real-time fraud monitoring at scale
- Protection across the payment lifecycle, from authorization to transaction processing
Mastercard has also introduced GenAI enhancements, enabling issuers to analyse risk factors—including merchant, purchase, and device data—faster and more accurately.
