NDPC and Presidential Youth Office Partner to Empower Nigerian Youths in Data Protection
The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has announced a new strategic collaboration with the Presidential Youth Office, aimed at empowering Nigerian youths through capacity building, digital literacy, and data protection training.
The partnership was discussed during a high-level meeting between Dr. Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner and CEO of NDPC, and Hon. Titilope Gbadamosi, Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Youth Initiatives (Monitoring & Delivery). The engagement focused on strengthening youth inclusion in Nigeria’s fast-growing data protection ecosystem.
Fostering Youth Inclusion in Data Protection
During the meeting, Hon. Titilope Gbadamosi commended the NDPC for its deliberate inclusion of young professionals within its workforce, describing the Commission as a model for inclusive governance in the digital era.
She emphasised the importance of youth engagement in national development and highlighted her office’s mandate to support initiatives that enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global technology space.
“The NDPC has demonstrated what inclusive leadership should look like—creating space for young Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to governance and innovation,” Gbadamosi said.
She also noted that data protection is not only a matter of compliance but a critical driver for digital growth and employment creation, particularly among tech-savvy young Nigerians.
NDPC Reaffirms Commitment to Digital Empowerment
In his response, Dr. Vincent Olatunji praised Gbadamosi’s vision and reaffirmed the NDPC’s readiness to collaborate with the Presidential Youth Office to train and empower young Nigerians in the fields of data privacy, cybersecurity, and digital compliance.
He referenced President Bola Tinubu’s assent to the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, describing it as a landmark step toward safeguarding digital rights and strengthening the nation’s data governance framework.
“The data protection sector in Nigeria has evolved beyond safeguarding privacy, it has become a catalyst for job creation, innovation, and global competitiveness,” Dr. Olatunji said.
He further disclosed plans to formalize the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will institutionalise youth-focused programmes under the NDPC’s regulatory and training initiatives.
Collaboration for National Development
Both parties agreed that Nigeria’s digital transformation cannot be achieved without empowering its youth population. The proposed collaboration will focus on:
- Capacity Building: Training Nigerian youths in data protection, privacy management, and digital rights.
- Employment Opportunities: Expanding access to career pathways within Nigeria’s data protection ecosystem.
- Innovation Support: Encouraging youth-led startups and tech initiatives that align with global data standards.
- Policy Inclusion: Ensuring that youth perspectives are integrated into national digital governance frameworks.
Dr. Olatunji added that with over 500,000 youths trained in basic digital literacy under various federal initiatives, this partnership represents another major step toward bridging Nigeria’s digital skills gap.
A Shared Vision for Nigeria’s Digital Future
The NDPC–Presidential Youth Office partnership underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive digital growth, where the protection of personal data aligns with national development goals.
By combining regulatory expertise with youth empowerment initiatives, the collaboration aims to position Nigeria as a regional leader in data protection, innovation, and digital governance.
