In a landmark move to bolster Nigeria’s digital resilience, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has officially commissioned a National Cybersecurity Centre at Bayero University, Kano (BUK). The facility, unveiled on May 20, 2025, is designed to serve as a national hub for cybersecurity education, innovation, research, and talent development.
A Strategic Investment in Digital Defense
The state-of-the-art centre was described as a “national asset” by NITDA Director-General, Mr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, during the commissioning ceremony. Represented by Dr. Jide Ajayi of the Zonal Coordination Department, Mr. Abdullahi emphasised the centre’s role in enhancing Nigeria’s capacity to defend its digital infrastructure and nurture future cybersecurity professionals.
“This is not just the unveiling of a facility; it is the activation of a knowledge-driven platform designed to equip our nation with the tools, talent, and infrastructure required to safeguard our digital space,” he stated.
The centre is aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the minister’s strategic blueprint, reinforcing the federal government’s commitment to digital transformation and national security.

Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, hailed the initiative as a visionary investment in Nigeria’s higher education system and national development.
