Nintendo Switch 2 Breaks Sales Records as Fastest-Selling Console in Company History

Nintendo Switch 2 sales surpass 3.5 million units in just 4 days

Nintendo has once again made gaming history. The newly released Nintendo Switch 2 has become the company’s fastest-selling console of all time, with more than 3.5 million units sold worldwide within the first four days of its launch on June 5, 2025. The phenomenal launch performance has surpassed all previous records for the gaming giant, reaffirming its position as a leader in the gaming industry.

Record-Breaking Launch for Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo revealed the numbers in a press statement on Wednesday, highlighting the overwhelming demand and global fan excitement for the next-generation hybrid console. The Switch 2 blends home console power with portable convenience and features significant upgrades over its predecessor, including:

  • A larger display
  • Enhanced graphics
  • Faster performance

According to Doug Bowser, President and COO of Nintendo of America:

“Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go.”

Sales Forecast: 15 Million Units by March 2026

Last month, Nintendo forecasted that the Switch 2 would sell 15 million units during the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2026. If early sales are any indicator, the company is on track—or even poised to surpass—this ambitious target.

Continued Success of the Nintendo Switch Legacy

Since the original Nintendo Switch debuted in 2017, the company has sold over 152 million units globally. The platform became a cultural and gaming phenomenon, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, with blockbuster titles like

  • The Legend of Zelda series
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Now, the Switch 2 carries forward that legacy with fresh excitement and powerful features. The console launched alongside new flagship titles, including the highly anticipated Mario Kart World.

 A New Era for Nintendo

With record-breaking sales and strong consumer demand, the Nintendo Switch 2 marks a new era for Nintendo’s hardware and software lineup. The hybrid console’s early success suggests that it will remain a dominant force in the gaming industry for years to come.
