Paga Processes ₦17 Trillion in 169 Million Transactions in 2025, CEO Reveals

Paga Records ₦17 Trillion in Transaction Value in 2025

Nigerian payments company Paga says it processed ₦17 trillion across 169 million transactions in 2025, marking a significant leap in both transaction volume and value.

The figures were disclosed by Paga’s founder and Chief Executive Officer, Tayo Oviosu, in a post on X, highlighting the growing scale of the company’s operations and the expanding role of Paga Engine, its payments infrastructure platform for businesses across Africa.

Transaction Growth Reflects Rapid Digital Payments Adoption

The data points to a steep growth trajectory for Paga over the past few years. In 2021, the company processed about 35 million transactions valued at just over ₦1 trillion.

Four years later, transaction volumes and values have multiplied several times over, reflecting a rapidly expanding user base and the broader adoption of digital payments in Nigeria and across Africa.

Paga Engine Powers Business Payments Across Africa

According to Oviosu, much of this growth is being driven by Paga Engine, the company’s enterprise-focused payments infrastructure. Paga Engine enables businesses to manage payments, bill collections, and banking services from a single platform. It is particularly targeted at fast-growing companies that require reliable systems to process large transaction volumes, monitor customer activity, and reduce payment-related risks. This positioning makes Paga more than a consumer-facing payments app, placing it at the centre of enterprise financial operations.

CEO: Paga Has Become Critical Economic Infrastructure

Reflecting on the milestone, Oviosu said the company’s evolution highlights the importance of trust in building large-scale financial systems. “What started as millions of transactions became trillions in value. What began as a consumer payments company evolved into critical economic infrastructure. Paga Engine is the best in the payments infrastructure business… none of this happens without trust,” he said.

Businesses Rely on Paga to Handle High-Volume Payments

The scale of transactions processed through Paga Engine indicates that businesses, including online retailers, fintech startups, and digital service providers, rely heavily on the platform to handle high volumes of payments securely and accurately.

Oviosu noted that the results demonstrate strong confidence from businesses in Paga’s ability to manage billions of dollars’ worth of transactions efficiently.

Sign of Africa’s Expanding Digital Economy

Paga Engine’s growth mirrors broader trends in Africa’s digital economy, where more businesses are moving online and require robust, scalable payment infrastructure.

For consumers, the rising transaction volumes suggest that digital payments are becoming increasingly mainstream, supported by systems capable of handling everyday transactions at scale.

Paga Plans Further Expansion and Enterprise Solutions

Looking ahead, Oviosu said Paga will continue to expand its service offerings, build more enterprise-focused solutions, and explore new markets across Africa.

As digital commerce and online services continue to grow, the company is positioning itself to remain a core player in the continent’s evolving financial infrastructure.
