PalmPay, Moniepoint, OPay, Piggyvest, and Interswitch Named Among CNBC’s Top 300 Global Fintech Companies in 2025

Nigeria’s fintech sector has earned global recognition as five companies—PalmPay, Moniepoint, OPay, Piggyvest, and Interswitch- have been featured in CNBC’s list of the top 300 global fintechs of 2025.

The ranking, developed in partnership with Statista, highlights the world’s leading fintech companies based on key performance indicators such as revenue, growth, and employee count.

Nigeria’s Fintechs Gain Global Recognition

Out of over 200 fintechs operating in Nigeria, only four homegrown companies secured a spot on CNBC’s prestigious list. Moniepoint, though founded in Nigeria, is listed as a UK company due to its corporate registration.

The five Nigerian fintechs recognised include:

  • PalmPay – Payments Category
  • Moniepoint – Payments Category
  • OPay – Payments Category
  • Interswitch – Payments Category
  • Piggyvest – Wealth Tech Category

Payment Services Lead Nigeria’s Representation

PalmPay, Moniepoint, OPay, and Interswitch were featured under the Payments category, which covers companies offering transaction facilitation products such as payment gateways and digital wallets.

Piggyvest stands out in the Wealth Tech category for its digital wealth management solutions, including investment management and portfolio optimisation tools.

Global Distribution of Top Fintechs

According to CNBC’s report, Nigeria has one of the lowest country representations, despite its large fintech ecosystem.

  • United States: 126 companies
  • United Kingdom: 38 companies
  • Singapore: 16 companies

This distribution reflects how global fintech leadership is concentrated in specific regions, with Nigeria and other emerging markets gradually gaining visibility.

Reactions from PalmPay and Moniepoint

Speaking on their inclusion, PalmPay highlighted its growth trajectory. The company now records over 15 million daily transactions and serves more than 35 million registered users.

Sofia Zab, Founding Chief Marketing Officer at PalmPay, stated:

“To be recognised as one of the world’s top fintech companies by CNBC and Statista is a powerful affirmation of our mission to build a more inclusive financial system. As we scale PalmPay to more emerging markets, including Tanzania and Bangladesh, our focus remains on closing financial access gaps for everyday consumers and businesses.”

Moniepoint’s Group CEO, Tosin Eniolorunda, also shared his thoughts:
