RealSense, a leading computer vision technology firm, has officially completed its spinout from Intel Corporation and raised $50 million in early-stage funding to fuel its expansion into the growing robotics sector. The company, known for its AI-powered depth cameras, is set to scale manufacturing, research, and go-to-market operations globally, according to a statement released on Friday.

RealSense Focuses on AI Vision for Robotics and Security Systems

RealSense develops advanced cameras that allow machines to perceive the world in three dimensions (3D). These cameras enable robots and devices to:

  • See depth
  • Interpret surroundings
  • Interact with environments

CEO Nadav Orbach emphasised that RealSense is looking to capitalise on the rising demand for computer vision sensors that help robots navigate complex environments. “I have over 3,000 active customers today with a pretty wide ecosystem play and pretty high growth year over year,” Orbach told Reuters.

$50 Million Funding to Boost Manufacturing and R&D

The new funding round, backed by:

  • Intel Capital
  • MediaTek Innovation Fund
  • Other strategic investors

will be used to:

  • Scale-up manufacturing
  • Expand global sales operations
  • Develop next-generation AI software and depth cameras

While RealSense did not disclose its latest valuation, the company confirmed that growth remains its primary focus, with potential plans for an IPO or acquisition.

RealSense’s latest product, the D555 camera, features:

  • Power and data transmission via a single cable
  • Built-in AI capabilities
  • Fast environmental interpretation for robots and security systems

These features are designed to help robots and security platforms understand their surroundings more efficiently and effectively.

RealSense Claims 60% Market Share in Autonomous Robots

RealSense reports that its depth cameras are embedded in:

  • 60% of the world’s autonomous mobile robots and humanoids

Notable clients include:

  • Unitree Robotics (China)
  • ANYbotics (Switzerland)

Beyond robotics, RealSense is expanding into security systems with facial recognition using its proprietary software tools for environmental mapping and face identification.

Global Presence: U.S. Headquarters, Asia Manufacturing

While manufacturing is primarily based in Thailand and Asia, RealSense maintains its headquarters and core business operations in the United States.

CEO Nadav Orbach confirmed that RealSense is open to future strategic opportunities: “We are focused on long-term growth but open to IPO or acquisition paths down the line.”
