Which Starlink Customers Are Affected
The update notice affects two specific user groups, according to Starlink:
- Hardware Update Group: Customers who received the message “Action Required: Plug in for critical update”. These users must connect their Starlink terminal to power before November 17 to automatically complete the update. Devices that remain disconnected after the deadline will become permanently unusable.
- Software Update Group: Customers who got the alert “Action Required: Update Software.” They must manually install the latest update via the Starlink app. Starting November 18, any device left unupdated will lose internet connectivity until the update is applied.
Starlink clarified that only users who received official emails or in-app notifications need to take action. Each alert includes a unique Starlink ID (UTID) linked to the customer’s terminal.

Starlink assured users that no fees apply for leaving their terminals plugged in during the update, and active subscriptions are not required to perform it.

- Versions earlier than 2024.05.0: Must be updated by November 17, 2025, or devices will become permanently disabled.
- Versions 2024.05.0 to 2024.12.26: Must be manually updated via the app before the deadline to maintain internet access.
- Versions newer than 2024.12.26: No immediate action required.
