Telecom Namibia has unveiled plans to extend fibre connectivity to more than 3,000 households in 2025, with active projects underway in Windhoek and upcoming rollouts in Ongwediva and Narraville.
Fibre Expansion Across Namibia
According to Nomvula Kambinda, Head of Corporate Communications at Telecom Namibia, three major projects in Windhoek—Augustenium College, Ambrose, and Luxury Hills—are nearing completion. These sites cover more than 2,600 erven, where customer connections have already started.
The next phase of fibre deployment will begin in Ongwediva and Narraville this August, with completion expected before the end of 2025.
Awaiting Approvals for Ondangwa and Swakopmund
Telecom Namibia confirmed it is also awaiting regulatory clearance for additional fibre projects in Ondangwa and Swakopmund. Timelines for these locations will be announced once approvals are secured.
Phase 1 Success: Over 5,000 Households Connected
This initiative builds on Phase 1 of the fibre rollout, completed in 2024, which connected more than 5,000 erven across Windhoek suburbs. The company says the 2025 programme is a critical step in scaling its infrastructure to meet growing broadband demand nationwide.
Part of Telecom Namibia’s Strategic Plan
The fibre expansion is part of Telecom Namibia’s 2023–2027 strategic plan, which aligns with the government’s national broadband policy. The shift from copper to fibre is expected to:
- Reduce service disruptions caused by copper cable theft.
- Support trials of a new national broadband standard, ensuring minimum speeds of 25 Mbps.
- Enhance reliability for homes, schools, and businesses across Namibia.
Driving Digital Transformation in Namibia
Kambinda emphasised that the expansion reflects Telecom Namibia’s commitment to improving connectivity and advancing the country’s digital transformation agenda. By investing in modern infrastructure, the company aims to make fast and reliable broadband accessible to more communities across the nation.
