Tunisia Advances Digital Transformation Agenda
The Tunisian government has intensified efforts to accelerate digital transformation across public administration, with Prime Minister Sarah Zafrani Al-Zanzari chairing a ministerial council meeting on September 16, 2025.
The session highlighted the progress of ongoing projects and emphasised their role in building a modern administration rooted in open data, artificial intelligence (AI), and enhanced transparency.
These efforts are seen as key to:
- Boosting Tunisia’s economic growth
- Simplifying administrative procedures
- Improving public services
- Strengthening competitiveness at the regional and international levels
138 Projects Driving Tunisia’s Digital Shift
The Minister of Communication Technologies, Sufyan Al-Hamisi, presented updates on short-term achievements and the broader 2025–2026 digital transformation program, which includes 138 projects across four key areas:
- Digital transformation of public administration – modernising citizen and business services through e-portals and remote services.
- Development of the digital economy – promoting e-commerce, financial inclusion, and innovation.
- Cybersecurity and trust-building – improving digital security and safeguarding user data.
- Expansion of digital infrastructure – strengthening communications networks and ensuring broader connectivity.
Tackling Challenges and Implementing Solutions
The council addressed existing obstacles hindering progress across ministries and public bodies. Recommendations included:
- Integrating projects into the national platform for monitoring public initiatives
- Creating dashboards to track implementation progress
- Enhancing interconnectivity between government departments
Other top priorities include:
- Expanding electronic payment systems
- Raising public awareness of digital services
- Launching a unified national portal for citizens and investors
- Adopting a national open data policy to promote transparency and innovation
Role of Artificial Intelligence in Governance
Artificial intelligence will play a key role in Tunisia’s digital agenda, particularly in:
- Detecting corruption
- Reducing tax evasion
- Enhancing government efficiency through smarter automation
Vision 2026–2030: Building a Digital Tunisia
Looking ahead, Prime Minister Al-Zanzari announced the development of a unified national vision for digital transformation (2026–2030).
This roadmap will:
- Define strategic objectives
- Establish timelines and milestones
- Prioritise user experience and streamlined procedures
The initiative ensures that Tunisia’s digitisation efforts remain comprehensive, inclusive, and aligned with the country’s broader reform and economic growth agenda.
With 138 digital transformation projects underway, Tunisia is positioning itself as a regional leader in digital governance, setting the foundation for a more transparent, efficient, and globally competitive economy.
