Nigeria’s push to position itself as a global innovation hub is gaining momentum, as the Nigerian Institute of Marine Engineers and Naval Architects prepares to host a high-profile international tech showcase in Singapore.

Dubbed Innovation Night, the April 24 event is set to connect Nigerian startups in marine engineering, offshore technology, and energy innovation with global investors and strategic partners.

Global stage for Nigerian startups

According to organisers, the event will provide a platform for startups to pitch cutting-edge solutions directly to international stakeholders, unlocking access to funding, partnerships, and new markets.

Beyond networking, the initiative forms part of a broader global acceleration programme designed to link Nigerian innovators with advanced technology ecosystems and investment pipelines capable of scaling local ideas into global solutions.

Driving Nigeria’s blue economy ambitions

Speaking on the initiative, NIMENA National Chairman, Eferebo I. Sylvanus, described the event as a defining moment for Nigeria’s maritime and energy sectors.

He said the goal is to build a strong bridge between Nigerian innovation and global capital, while positioning the country as a competitive player in the international maritime space.

Industry experts say the move aligns with Nigeria’s growing focus on the blue economy—seen as a critical pathway for job creation, economic diversification, and sustainable growth.

Boosting investment, collaboration

The Singapore event is expected to attract key stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Chambers of Commerce, and the Nigerian High Commission in Singapore, alongside global investors.

These engagements are expected to foster cross-border collaboration, promote technology transfer, and attract foreign direct investment into Nigeria’s maritime and energy sectors.

A turning point for Nigeria’s tech ecosystem

Observers say the initiative could significantly elevate Nigeria’s reputation in marine engineering and offshore innovation, especially as global demand rises for scalable solutions from emerging markets.

With increasing interest in the global blue economy—worth billions of dollars annually—the event could open new opportunities for Nigerian startups to secure funding, expand internationally, and commercialise their innovations.

As anticipation builds, analysts believe NIMENA’s Innovation Night could mark a major turning point—one that propels Nigerian maritime technology onto the global stage and strengthens the country’s position in the rapidly evolving digital and energy landscape.
