Liberia Girl Guides Partner with LTA to Promote Cyber Awareness During Cybersecurity Month

In celebration of Cybersecurity Month, the Liberia Girl Guides Association (LGGA) teamed up with the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) to raise awareness about online safety through a creative and engaging outreach initiative. The collaboration blended education, creativity, and youth advocacy to inspire safer digital habits among Liberians.

A Creative Approach to Digital Safety

The highlight of the visit to the LTA headquarters was an interactive session where LGGA members distributed cookies and brownies printed with cybersecurity tips, turning digital safety education into a memorable experience.

The event opened with a theatrical skit performed by LGGA members, dramatising the dangers of cyber scams and the importance of vigilance online. Through humour, storytelling, and role-play, the young guides brought complex cybersecurity issues to life in a relatable and entertaining way.

The performance set the tone for deeper discussions on cybersecurity awareness, encouraging participants to think critically about how they interact with digital tools and protect personal information.

LTA’s Cybersecurity Month Activities

The visit was part of the LTA’s Cybersecurity Month program, organised under the Department of International Gateway Services and Internet Governance, led by Commissioner Angela Cassell-Bush.

Throughout October, the LTA has hosted multiple initiatives aimed at promoting safe digital practices, strengthening cyber resilience, and fostering responsible online behaviour across Liberia’s public and private sectors.

After the performance, LGGA members toured the LTA headquarters, engaging with staff in interactive discussions and distributing cyber safety-themed treats labelled with practical reminders, such as “Think Before You Click” and “Protect Your Passwords.”

The campaign highlighted simple yet powerful actions individuals can take daily to safeguard both personal and institutional data.

Leaders Commend the Youth Initiative

LTA Chairman Clarence K. Massaquoi praised the LGGA for its innovative and youth-driven approach to public education, emphasising that cyber awareness begins with community engagement.

“We commend the Liberia Girl Guides for creatively promoting cyber awareness. Their energy and innovation show how young people can play a vital role in building our national cybersecurity culture,” Massaquoi said.

He reaffirmed the LTA’s commitment to supporting youth-led initiatives that enhance cyber resilience and encourage digital responsibility among all Liberians.

Building a Safer Digital Future

The collaboration between the Liberia Girl Guides Association and the Liberia Telecommunications Authority reflects Liberia’s growing commitment to cybersecurity education and digital inclusion.

By involving youth groups in national awareness efforts, Liberia is not only strengthening its cyber defence culture but also empowering the next generation to become responsible digital citizens.

The initiative serves as a model for how creative education and institutional partnerships can work together to build a safer digital environment for all.
