NIMC Upgrades Diaspora NIN Enrolment Platform, Mandates Partners to Activate Licences Within 48 Hours

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced a major upgrade to its Diaspora NIN Enrolment Platform, aimed at boosting security and improving service delivery for Nigerians living abroad.

In an update shared via its official X (Twitter) account, NIMC directed all Diaspora Front-End Partners (FEPs) to activate their licences within 48 hours to continue offering enrolment services.

“The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has enhanced its diaspora enrolment platform for better security and efficiency. Diaspora Front-End Partners (FEPs) must activate their licences within 48 hours to resume services. For support, contact nimccustomercare@nimc.gov.ng,” the statement read.

NIN Enrolment Remains Active in Nigeria

NIMC assured Nigerians that National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment services are still active nationwide.

About the Diaspora NIN Enrolment Platform

The Diaspora NIN Enrolment Platform is a secure online system created by NIMC to help Nigerians abroad enrol and update their NIN without visiting Nigeria.

Diaspora Front-End Partners (FEPs) are accredited organisations authorised to handle the enrolment and verification process. They collect applicants’ biometric data and documents, then securely transmit them to NIMC.

The latest upgrade focuses on:

  • Stronger security features to prevent fraud
  • Better efficiency to reduce delays and glitches
  • Improved user experience for Nigerians in the diaspora

NIN Registration Growth in 2025

NIMC data shows that 7 million new NINs were added in the first half of 2025, bringing the total enrolments to 121 million as of June 30, 2025.

Top States by NIN Registration:

  1. Lagos State – 12.9 million
  2. Kano State – 11.07 million
  3. Kaduna State – 7.1 million
  4. Ogun State – 5.06 million

Gender distribution shows 56.5% male and 43.5% female registrations.

Ward Enrolment Initiative for Rural Communities

To accelerate enrolment, NIMC launched a Ward Enrolment programme that deploys NYSC members to underserved communities, focusing on children under 16.

This strategy is part of Nigeria’s target to register 95% of its population by year-end.
