Nigerian fintech giant Moniepoint Inc. has acquired restaurant technology startup Orda Africa, in a strategic move to expand into Africa’s rapidly growing food service industry, estimated to be worth over $50 billion.
The deal marks a significant step in Moniepoint’s evolution beyond payments, as it seeks to deepen its footprint among small businesses by offering integrated digital tools and financial services.
One Platform for Payments and Operations
The acquisition will see Orda’s cloud-based restaurant management software integrated into Moniepoint’s business platform, Moniebook.
This will enable restaurants and food vendors to manage orders, payments, inventory, and accounting seamlessly within a single system—streamlining operations and improving efficiency.
Betting on Africa’s Food Economy
Moniepoint’s co-founder and CEO, Tosin Eniolorunda, described the food sector as one of Africa’s most vibrant yet underserved industries.
“The food industry is a major source of jobs and daily survival for many Africans,” he said, noting that a large number of businesses still rely on manual processes and fragmented tools.
With urbanisation and changing consumer habits driving growth, Africa’s restaurant sector is expanding rapidly. In Nigeria alone, the market is projected to reach $19.3 billion by 2030, growing at more than 11 per cent annually.
Fintechs Move Beyond Payments
The acquisition reflects a broader trend across Africa’s fintech landscape, where companies are increasingly offering end-to-end solutions—including business management tools and access to credit—to capture more value from small and medium-sized enterprises.
Restaurants, in particular, present an attractive segment due to their high transaction volumes and constant need for working capital.
Orda’s Next Growth Phase
Founded in 2020, Orda has built a niche providing digital tools for small and independent restaurants, helping them manage kitchen workflows, track orders, and monitor stock levels.
Orda CEO, Guy Futi, said the partnership would unlock new opportunities by linking operational data with financial services.
“To truly transform the industry, we needed to connect that expertise with comprehensive financial infrastructure,” he said, adding that existing customers would continue using the platform while gaining access to expanded services.
Strengthening Market Leadership
Founded in 2015 by Eniolorunda and Felix Ike, Moniepoint has grown into one of Nigeria’s leading fintech firms, serving over 20 million users and processing more than $250 billion in transactions annually.
The company is also a dominant player in Nigeria’s merchant acquiring space, powering a large share of point-of-sale transactions nationwide.
Strategic Outlook
Analysts say the acquisition positions Moniepoint to play a central role in digitising Africa’s informal economy, particularly in sectors like food services where technology adoption remains low.
By combining payments, operations, and credit into a single ecosystem, the fintech is betting on deeper integration with everyday business activities—unlocking new revenue streams while driving financial inclusion.
