Nigerian logistics startup TruQ has announced a major leadership change, as co-founder and CEO Williams Fatayo steps down from his executive role. Fatayo confirmed his resignation on Saturday, July 12, 2025, via a Medium post, citing unresolved personal and leadership disagreements with his co-founder.
Why TruQ CEO Williams Fatayo Stepped Down
Fatayo explained that after the launch of TruQ 3.0, internal conflicts emerged around the company’s direction and operations.
“We had just gotten on the TruQ 3.0 journey when my co-founder and I started having issues around how we run the business and several other personal differences,” he wrote.
Despite efforts to manage the situation, both founders concluded it was best to part ways in leadership roles. Fatayo emphasised that he sought spiritual guidance before finalising his decision, referencing a biblical passage that helped him find clarity.
From Co-founder to Board Member
Fatayo will now transition to a non-executive board role while maintaining a minority stake in the company. His co-founder, Foluso Ojo, will officially take over as the new CEO of TruQ Nigeria. “We are in the middle of the transition plans… under Foluso’s leadership as the new CEO of TruQ,” Fatayo said in his statement.
How TruQ Started: A Nigerian Logistics Startup Story
Founded in February 2020, TruQ was born out of a real-world problem experienced by its co-founders in Lagos, Nigeria. Fatayo and Ojo struggled with moving a wardrobe across town, highlighting inefficiencies in Nigeria’s logistics sector.
After conducting surveys, they identified a widespread need for reliable, on-demand logistics services. TruQ began as an informal social media-based service before scaling into a full digital platform.
The company follows an asset-light, commission-based model, partnering with:
- Over 9 logistics firms
- More than 70 individual truck owners
