TikTok, ICC Launch Digital Commerce Programme to Empower Nigerian Small Businesses

TikTok has partnered with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) to roll out “Digital Commerce Labs,” a global initiative aimed at equipping small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in Nigeria with critical digital skills for growth.

The programme, set to launch across select markets in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, is designed to unlock new opportunities in digital commerce by combining TikTok’s global reach and tools with ICC’s expertise in trade and business development.

In Nigeria, the initiative is being implemented with support from the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, providing entrepreneurs with access to training, mentorship, and digital resources.

The Digital Commerce Labs will focus on helping small businesses boost revenue, expand market access, and build resilience in an increasingly digital economy. It is also structured to create a scalable learning model that can be replicated across multiple regions.

The programme will deliver impact through three core components: community engagement sessions to foster networking and peer learning, self-paced online training modules with interactive content, and live virtual classes led by industry experts.

Secretary General of the ICC, John W. H. Denton, described the initiative as a major step toward building a more inclusive global economy.

“This partnership is about unlocking opportunity and ensuring that the benefits of digital commerce are widely shared, especially among small businesses,” he said.

Also speaking, Tokunbo Ibrahim noted that while many small businesses have grown on TikTok, there is a need to equip entrepreneurs with the tools to sustain and scale that growth.

“Our collaboration with ICC, NITDA and LSETF is focused on giving entrepreneurs the knowledge and resources they need to thrive long-term,” she said.

The programme is expected to roll out in 10 countries, with initial launches this spring and a broader expansion across Africa and into Thailand later in the year.

Small businesses in Nigeria have been encouraged to apply for the training, which aims to help entrepreneurs sharpen their digital capabilities and compete more effectively in the global marketplace.
