OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT Pulse for Proactive AI Assistance
OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Pulse, a new feature that transforms ChatGPT from a question-and-answer chatbot into a personalised daily assistant. Currently in preview for ChatGPT Pro users on mobile, Pulse generates a daily feed of visual cards tailored to each user’s needs, interests, and goals.
Unlike the traditional ChatGPT experience, where users start every conversation, Pulse can proactively deliver insights, reminders, and recommendations, making it a powerful research and productivity companion.
How ChatGPT Pulse Works
Each night, ChatGPT Pulse analyses user interactions, including chat history, preferences, and feedback, to prepare a personalised feed for the next morning.
The updates may include:
- Travel suggestions for upcoming trips.
- Healthy meal ideas and lifestyle tips.
- Work reminders such as meeting agendas or project updates.
- Personal goals tracking, like training for a triathlon.
“For example, ChatGPT Pulse could remind users to buy a birthday gift, draft a sample agenda, or recommend restaurants for an upcoming trip,” OpenAI explained.
Users can also curate their feeds, choosing updates such as local events, skill-building tips, or sports highlights.
Integrations with Gmail and Google Calendar
To deliver context-aware updates, OpenAI has added optional integrations with Gmail and Google Calendar.
With these enabled, ChatGPT Pulse can:
- Draft meeting agendas.
- Highlight important emails.
- Suggest activities tied to calendar events.
OpenAI emphasised that these integrations are fully opt-in, with users maintaining control over their settings. All generated updates undergo safety checks to ensure they are free from harmful or policy-violating content.
Designed for Productivity, Not Endless Scrolling
One of the unique aspects of ChatGPT Pulse is its daily refresh model. Updates are available for that day only unless users save them into a chat or expand them into a longer conversation.
OpenAI said the feature was built to boost productivity without creating addictive scrolling habits.
Testing with students in ChatGPT Lab revealed that Pulse became more useful over time, especially when users actively shared the type of updates they wanted to see.
Availability and Expansion Plans
Currently, ChatGPT Pulse is exclusive to Pro subscribers on mobile. However, OpenAI plans to extend the feature to ChatGPT Plus users and eventually make it available to all users worldwide.
This move aligns with OpenAI’s larger ambition to position personalised AI assistants as an essential part of everyday productivity.
“Every morning, we want Pulse to give you the information you need so you can get back to what matters most,” OpenAI stated.
