Federal and Katsina Governments Unite to Drive Digital Transformation
The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation with Nigerian states to accelerate nationwide digital transformation.
During a strategic meeting in Abuja, the Honourable Minister, Dr. Bosun Tijani, hosted the Executive Governor of Katsina State, H.E. Dr. Dikko Umar Radda, to discuss collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing digital inclusion, broadband connectivity, and innovation-driven development.
Katsina State’s Digital Achievements Praised
Both leaders commended Katsina State for its significant strides in advancing its digital agenda. The adoption of a free Right of Way (RoW) policy and the enactment of a state digital policy law have positioned Katsina as a model for digital governance and innovation in Nigeria.
These initiatives are helping to create an enabling environment for broadband expansion, investment attraction, and digital literacy programmes that empower citizens and businesses alike.
Expanding Broadband and Building Digital Skills
Discussions focused on extending broadband connectivity across Katsina through national initiatives such as the Broadband Alliance and the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.
These programmes aim to close connectivity gaps, enhance access to digital infrastructure, and build the skilled workforce needed to support Nigeria’s digital economy.
Dr. Tijani emphasised that broadband is the foundation of a modern, knowledge-based economy and a key enabler of growth across all sectors.
Innovation Hub and Digital Inclusion Goals
Minister Tijani reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the establishment of an Innovation Hub in Katsina State, which will serve as a catalyst for local entrepreneurship, talent development, and technology-driven growth.
He noted that the project aligns with the Federal Government’s National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS), aimed at fostering inclusion, innovation, and sustainable development through technology.
“By strengthening partnerships at the state level, we are building a more connected, inclusive, and digitally empowered Nigeria,” Dr. Tijani said.
Governor Radda expressed his appreciation for the Ministry’s support and reiterated Katsina’s readiness to work closely with the Federal Government in implementing key digital initiatives.
A Shared Vision for Nigeria’s Digital Future
The meeting underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering collaboration with states to unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s digital economy. By aligning national and sub-national strategies, Nigeria continues to move closer to achieving a truly connected, innovative, and globally competitive economy.
