Nigerian fintech Kippa has transferred its agency banking service, KippaPay, to Bloc, a local fintech preparing to enter the banking space. KippaPay, which was shut down in October due to high costs after Nigeria’s naira devaluation, has now been integrated into Bloc’s payment subsidiary, GPay. While Kippa retains ownership of the product, Bloc will handle operations and support for KippaPay’s network of agents.
Kippa co-founder Kennedy Ekezie confirmed that the decision to partner with Bloc came after evaluating multiple firms. Bloc demonstrated the greatest capacity to quickly restore and support KippaPay’s merchant services. The transition aims to provide uninterrupted service to KippaPay’s users without needing increased agent commissions in a competitive market.
Bloc notified KippaPay agents via email that full service has been restored on the KippaPay mobile app and Android terminals. However, Linux terminal support remains incomplete, and merchants using POS devices have been asked to return them to Kippa. Those who haven’t returned their devices will be onboarded as GPay users.
Bloc’s spokesperson stated that the company has successfully migrated all KippaPay agents to the GPay app, with plans to engage and fully integrate its 19,000 agents over the coming weeks.
