Nigeria has taken a major step forward in its artificial intelligence (AI) agenda with the appointment of Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of Access Holdings, to the National AI Trust, a key initiative by the Federal Government to accelerate AI innovation and adoption across the country.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, who confirmed that Aig-Imoukhuede has formally joined the strategic body.
“Mr. Aig-Imoukhuede has graciously accepted to join our National AI Trust, bringing his wealth of experience and visionary leadership to this next phase of Nigeria’s AI journey,” Dr. Tijani said.
What is Nigeria’s National AI Trust?
Approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in February 2025, the National AI Trust is composed of:
- 10 leading AI experts
- Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy
- Minister of Science, Innovation, and Technology
Mandates of the AI Trust include:
- Mobilizing financial and technical resources
- Overseeing national AI development
- Aligning AI initiatives with Nigeria’s long-term economic and innovation goals
- Driving job creation, attracting foreign direct investment, and positioning Nigeria as a global AI leader

Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede brings a decades-long track record of leadership in banking, finance, and digital transformation.
