The United States Consulate, in collaboration with the Ogun State Government and GFA Technologies, has officially unveiled the ‘Window on America’ initiative at the Ogun Tech Hub in Abeokuta. This landmark project aims to expand digital access, boost youth empowerment, and foster skills development through a fully equipped ICT and resource centre.
Empowering Nigerian Youth Through Technology and Innovation
Speaking at the launch, Governor Dapo Abiodun called on young Nigerians to tap into the vast opportunities in the ICT sector to become self-reliant and globally competitive. He described the initiative as a visionary public-private partnership that bridges Nigerian talent with global innovation ecosystems.
“This center is more than a learning space; it is a platform for skills building, entrepreneurship, and international collaboration,” Governor Abiodun said.
What the ‘Window on America’ Centre Offers
Located within the Ogun Tech Hub, the American Space provides free access to:
- Digital literacy programs
- English language conversation clubs
- Global affairs dialogues
- American-authored books and scholarly databases
- Entrepreneurship and leadership development resources
- High-speed internet and modern ICT equipment
The centre is part of a broader network of 29 ‘Windows on America’ across Nigeria and the second facility in Ogun State, reflecting the U.S. government’s commitment to digital inclusion and youth development.
Strengthening U.S.–Nigeria Digital Cooperation
Representing the U.S. Consulate, Acting Consular General JoEllen Gorg praised the initiative, calling it a testament to strong leadership and strategic foresight.
“This project reflects our shared vision of empowering young people with the tools to thrive in a connected world,” Gorg stated.
Earlier that day, she paid a courtesy visit to Governor Abiodun at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, reinforcing the strategic partnership between the U.S. and Ogun State in advancing ICT innovation and knowledge exchange.
Private Sector Investment in Ogun’s Tech Ecosystem
Also speaking at the event, Debo Omololu, CEO of GFA Technologies, disclosed that the company has:
- Invested over ₦400 million in Ogun State
- Hired more than 1,000 software engineers
- Contributed to the local tech talent pipeline
He urged Nigerian youth to seize the opportunities offered by the Window on America initiative to prepare for the digital economy of the future.

Governor Abiodun highlighted the state’s substantial investments in:
- Fibre optic broadband infrastructure
- Innovation clusters and tech hubs
- STEM and digital education programs
These efforts align with Ogun State’s goal of creating an inclusive digital economy that drives job creation, foreign investment, and social impact.
