Nigeria’s Cinema Industry Posts Impressive Gains in 2025
Nigeria’s film exhibition market recorded a strong performance in 2025, marked by rising ticket sales, increased cinema attendance, and notable revenue growth. Nollywood productions took centre stage, competing strongly alongside major Hollywood releases throughout the year.
Data published by the Nigerian Box Office (NBO) shows that the top 10 highest-earning films were ranked using ticket revenue generated from physical cinemas across the country between January and December 2025.
Growing Audience Confidence Fuels Nollywood’s Breakthrough
The year proved to be a milestone for the Nigerian film industry, as audience confidence in Nollywood productions continued to strengthen. Improved production quality, compelling storytelling, and stronger cultural relevance helped local films attract larger cinema audiences.
By August 2025, box office earnings had reached ₦10.03 billion, reflecting a 56.9% year-on-year increase compared to the same period in 2024. Industry projections estimated full-year revenue at nearly ₦15 billion.
Revenue expansion was largely supported by a 35.6% increase in average ticket prices, which rose from ₦4,019 in 2024 to ₦5,449 in 2025. Cinema admissions also grew by 15.7%, reinforcing the shift toward cinema as a premium leisure experience.
