OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT Health for Personalised Health Insights

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a new feature designed to help users better understand their health by securely integrating personal medical records and wellness data into ChatGPT conversations.

According to the company, ChatGPT Health allows users to connect data from supported platforms such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal, enabling responses that are informed by individual health trends rather than isolated questions.

Built to Support—Not Replace—Medical Care

OpenAI emphasised that ChatGPT Health is not intended for diagnosis or treatment, but rather to help users navigate everyday health questions and prepare for conversations with healthcare professionals.

“Health is designed to support, not replace, medical care. It is not intended for diagnosis or treatment. Instead, it helps you navigate everyday questions and understand patterns over time, not just moments of illness, so you can feel more informed and prepared for important medical conversations,” the company said.

The system focuses on long-term health awareness, helping users track trends, interpret data, and recognise when follow-ups with clinicians may be necessary.

Enhanced Privacy and Data Protection

To safeguard sensitive information, OpenAI stated that ChatGPT Health operates as a separate, protected environment with stricter privacy controls than general ChatGPT conversations.

Key privacy measures include:

  • Health conversations are not used to train OpenAI’s foundation models
  • Sensitive data is isolated within the Health environment
  • Users are prompted to move health-related discussions into ChatGPT Health for added protection

These safeguards are intended to build trust as AI tools increasingly interact with personal health information.

Clinician-Led Development and Safety Review

OpenAI revealed that ChatGPT Health was developed in collaboration with over 260 physicians across 60 countries, who collectively reviewed more than 600,000 model outputs to improve safety, clarity, and accuracy.

According to the company, clinician feedback influenced:

  • How urgently does the system encourage follow-ups with healthcare providers
  • How medical information is communicated without oversimplification
  • How safety is prioritised in sensitive or high-risk scenarios

“This collaboration has shaped not just what Health can do, but how it responds—especially in moments that matter,” OpenAI said.

Availability and Regional Limitations

ChatGPT Health is currently being rolled out to a limited group of early users. OpenAI confirmed that users on ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom are eligible to join the waitlist.

At launch:

  • Some features, including medical record integrations, are limited to the United States
  • Connecting Apple Health requires iOS
  • Broader web and iOS availability is planned in the coming weeks

ChatGPT’s Rapid Global Growth

The launch comes as ChatGPT continues to scale rapidly worldwide. As of December 2025, ChatGPT serves more than 800 million weekly active users, according to OpenAI leadership, double the roughly 400 million weekly users recorded earlier in 2025.

The milestone highlights ChatGPT’s growing role across consumer and professional use cases, from everyday information needs to complex workplace workflows.

Strong Enterprise Adoption

OpenAI also disclosed significant commercial traction, with over 1 million business customers now using ChatGPT-powered solutions. Products such as ChatGPT for Work and enterprise integrations are driving adoption by enabling organisations to embed AI directly into internal processes.

Outlook

As OpenAI refines ChatGPT Health and expands access, the feature signals a broader shift toward privacy-first, AI-assisted health tools that complement, not replace, traditional care. With its emphasis on security, clinician collaboration, and user empowerment, ChatGPT Health positions AI as a supportive layer in the future of digital health.
